Commercialization of LED Based Lighting System Suitable for Remote Rural Areas, Developed at E &ME College.

A team under the supervision of an Associate Professor from College of E &ME has developed a complete household power generation and lighting system, especially for rural areas of remote locations. The battery of the LED lighting system so developed can primarily be charged through solar photovoltaic system and during consistent bad weather period the battery may be got charged through the paddle generator (converting mechanical energy into electric energy). The target utilization areas of this system could be remote places in the country where there is no electricity, and poor households are in dire need of some alternate lighting arrangement

In order to commercialize this product NUST Consulting arranged presentation / demonstration of this product to different agencies inclusive of PPAF. Keeping in the viability of the product PPAF managed to place an order of 50 systems in March, 2008 through Indus Earth; one of their recipient of welfare Funds. After the development subject system has been successfully installed at the village Hussaini Faqeer Shahi near Kemari, Karachi. The poor people of this village are more than happy to have light at their houses
